Hack Your Fears in >observer_ on Xbox One Today

The headlines today… they can be frightening. Threats of nuclear war, hacked banks, hacked accounts — heck, even “Game of Thrones” was hacked! Nothing is safe. These are the headlines that inspired us to create the dystopian world of >observer_. A war-torn world, where a single corporation rules with an iron fist, where police can hack our minds, with or without cause. A cyberpunk world of implants and upgrades, where machine and man lose themselves in each other. Where the slums are covered up by holograms, because holograms are less expensive than making the slums livable.

Observer Screenshots

You play as Detective Dan Lazarski, an Observer with the authority to hack and invade suspects’ minds to solve crimes. As reprehensible as that idea may sound to you and me, Lazarkski considers himself one of the good guys. He’s trying to solve a series of murders and track down his missing son. But to do so, he’ll need to hack into some very unsavory — and sometimes innocent — people.

We’re big fans of cyberpunk here at Bloober. “Ghost in the Shell,” “Akira,” and of course, “Blade Runner.” We’re overjoyed that Rutger Hauer, star of “Blade Runner” and a card-carrying member of the cyberpunk hall of fame, joined us on this journey to bring Dan Lazarski to life. As you play through our version of 2084, you’ll probably notice the winks and nods to the cyberpunk stories that inspired us.

Observer Screenshots

Our last game, Layers of Fear, dealt with the edge of sanity, that place on the cliff’s edge, just before you topple over into the abyss. With >observer_, we wanted to explore the borders of humanity. Who are you if you’re in someone else’s mind; or if they are in yours? And because we make horror games, we’ll be trying to scare the pants off you every minute of the way.

From all of us here at Bloober Team in Krakow, thank you! We hope the future we’ve created frightens you as much as it frightens us.

Agents of Mayhem is Volicious and Available Now on Xbox One

In Agents of Mayhem, you’re part of a no-holds barred organization called M.A.Y.H.E.M. (Multinational Agency for Hunting Evil Masterminds) fighting against a shadowy super-villain organization called L.E.G.I.O.N. (League of Evil Gentlemen Intent on Obliterating Nations). Playing as a diverse squad of super agents backed by a team of experts, you will brave the city of Seoul to expose L.E.G.I.O.N. and stop their plans to dominate the world. It is the ultimate clash of Bad vs. Evil.

Agents of Mayhem Screenshot

There’s a lot to look forward to in Agents of Mayhem and getting familiar with all the characters is one of them. Playable agents each have distinct set of customizable weapons, skills, and gameplay that brings a lot of depth and choice to how each agent feels on the field. Building from there, you’ll enjoy exploring how different combinations of agents fight as a team since you can quickly live-swap between a squad of three at any given time.

The base of operations for M.A.Y.H.E.M. is filled with supportive Agents who provide access to cutting edge technology such as deadly gadgetry (Gremlin, Head of R&D), powerful vehicles (Quartermile, Vehicle Bay) or other perks such as a virtual combat simulator (Mixer, operator of the Wreck Room). Throughout gameplay, each agent’s distinct personality, moral compass, background, viewpoint, and interests will unfold in unusual (and often hilarious) ways. Together, M.A.Y.H.E.M agents are chaotic, loyal, boisterous, reserved, shocking, lovable, vulgar, witty — and this is just the bad guys; the evil guys, that’s a whole other level.

Agents of Mayhem Screenshot

What makes Agents of Mayhem special at its heart is the team at Deep Silver Volition and beyond who worked hard to bring Volition’s irreverent tone, tech, style, humor, and fun to this brand-new IP.

Our animation team raced to find more over-the-top jump and vehicle entry animations than the last, to see just where directors would draw the line at ridiculousness.  Our design team pushed humor so far they hit the limit on “ball jokes” in one of the boss fights. Adding giant robot legs and plasma thrusters on a L.E.G.I.O.N. outpost was what “tied it all together” for our city team. Our audio team inspired team-wide sing-alongs of catchy (evil) L.E.G.I.O.N songs. Even our brand-new custom engine had randomized (and often hilarious) names from the programming team pop up when run.

Agents of Mayhem Screenshot

It’s best summed up by a term coined from the visual effects team, who developed a special word to develop by: Volicious, delicious in a uniquely Volition way. And we can’t wait for you to taste it.

Agents of Mayhem is now available on Xbox One. For the latest news and updates, follow us on Twitter and stay tuned to Xbox Wire.

Defining the Soul of a Racecar in the Forza Motorsport 7 Garage

This is week five of the Forza Motorsport 7 Garage and we’re bringing a huge list of cars to the game – cars that represent a worldwide sample of automotive excellence, with a particular focus on the best cars coming out of Europe. When curating this list of cars to reveal, we pondered the following question: what defines the “soul” of a European car? Some might point to quality, exemplified in cars like the Audi RS 4. Others will point to timeless design – think of the BMW 2002 or the Renault Alpine A110 as prime examples. What about incredible performance? With cars like the 2013 Caterham Superlight R500 and the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series, drivers will never lack power and agility. Is it luxury you want? Look no further than the likes of Bentley and Rolls Royce.

Many of the cars featured this week have been bred from the most competitive and cosmopolitan race series in the world. The sumptuous lines of the Italian cars may catch your eye, or perhaps the unending search for perfection that defines German engineering. The automotive soul of Europe and all its facets can be found right here this week, all soon to be driven in Forza Motorsport 7.

Now, check out the cars of week five, starting with our weekly spotlight car which was once deemed “too fast to race.”

2013 Caterham Superlight R500

When the cars you built for racing become banned from racing and breed franchise slogans such as “Caterham Seven, the Car That’s Too Fast to Race,” you know you’re doing something right. The Caterham Superlight is the latest masterwork created by one of the patriarchs of racing design, Colin Chapman. The basic design of the Superlight R500 originates from the bones of the Lotus 7 which has existed in a mostly unaltered form for more than 50 years. Sure, there has been evolution in materials, tweaks to dimensions, and the old live-axle rear suspension has long been replaced by a De Dion rear axle. At its heart, however, this is the same car that proved itself unfairly advantageous to race other cars. Caterham purchased the rights to the Lotus 7 in 1973 and has since been “simplifying and adding lightness” as Chapman prophesized so long ago. The Superlight R500 represents a weapons-grade thrill car that can deliver breathtaking performance anywhere it’s required. There are few cars in the world that can match its 0-60 times (at sub-3 seconds) and even fewer that can also equal its lap times that are otherwise only achievable in a purpose-built race car.

Take a look at the rest of the European cars we are announcing this week. As always, stay tuned to ForzaMotorsport.net for the full list of Forza Motorsport 7 cars revealed to date.
