This has been a while in the making, and we’re finally ready to take the curtain off a new survival horror game we’re working on with Ice-Pick Lodge.
First, the drill-down:
Pathologic 2 is an open world survival horror game set in a town being consumed by plague. As the only sane medic around, it’s your job to try and save everyone.Coming to PC in 2018Was previously known as just "Pathologic", we added "2" at the end to avoid confusion between the series’ complicated continuity: first there was Mor.Utopia aka Pathologic, then there was Pathologic Classic HD (a remake), and now we’re working on Pathologic 2. Let’s not get back to the naming issue 🙂
Full game is coming in 2018, alphas are coming sooner
In the good old days of game development, typically you’d get a publishing deal in place — receive funding from a publisher, and lock yourselves in for a couple of years until you ship something. Repeat every few years. It’s clear this work method no longer works, not for us or for the industry as a whole. After seeing what tinyBuild was able to achieve while being completely open with their fans about games like Party Hard, SpeedRunners, and Hello Neighbor, it was clear the dev process needed a change.
To be clear: tinyBuild is coming on board to help produce Pathologic 2, acting as a publishing partner.
In the old structure, we would spend months on getting complicated systems in place, and hope everything comes together in the end.
Today we spend shorter sprints on accomplishing smaller tasks, and playtest what we’ve accomplished — figuring out if the direction is still the right one. This empowered us to come up with a few fun mechanics that’ll be playable this weekend at PAXWest in Seattle.
If the reception of the PAXWest demo is positive, that’ll be the first alpha we release to you guys. Stay tuned.
Hey everyone! Here’s the video update for Hello Neighbor Beta 3:
To quickly summarize the video update:

Has a bossHas a basementReworked Fear roomsStability is goodAI navigates laddersContains only about 40% of the game
Alpha 2 is free for everyone

Release date changed to December 8
100% our fault for poor planning of QA (we didn’t plan for enough of it)Engine upgrade and move to release code caused a nightmare of stability issues as witnessed in previous betasDecided to delay instead of cutting / splicing features or releasing a buggy game
I’ve discussed in the video of how we tried to push for an August 29th launch date without allocating enough time for QA, and that completely backfired. As soon as we moved to the release code with an engine update, everything went to hell – the pathfinding, collisions, AI, etc. This took time away from actually finishing the game, and we had to make the super difficult decision to delay the game.
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is bad forever" – Shigeru Miyamoto
This means we’ll have more time to refine the design as well. Let’s talk in-depth about some of the design issues we’ve been working on that are present in Hello Neighbor Alpha 3. The main one being FEAR rooms.
First off, we removed FEAR FACTORY. The idea behind it was to teach players how to use a superthrow ability. NPCs would surround the player, give him an item, and then chase the item if the player throws it. Repeat 10 times and you’d learn you can hold down mouse2 for that. It’s neat in theory, but gameplay wise we spent a bit too much time on it. The artwork as well. So it’s a shame to cut it, but it’s just not fun enough. Players now have the superthrow ability by default.
Got a major rework. The goal of the level is to get 5 items into a grocery cart, and go past checkout. You need to get the same items as NPCs are gathering. If an NPC sees you, he will try to run at you and catch you. This is the lose condition.
The level used to play like this:
If you’re getting chased, stand still (not even move the mouse) for a second, and you become invisibleIf you get caught, you’d respawn with the cart in the beginning of the level
Now the level is much more streamlined
Crouch and don’t move – you’re instantly invisibleLess NPCs spawn in the levelIf you get caught, the cart stays where it wasWatchout for NPCs stealing something from it while it’s thereCheckout has lights that confirm how many items you have collected properlyLowered the size of some items so they fit into the cart easier
There is a basement in beta 3. It’s one of the several basements from the final game. You absolutely need an umbrella here.
Remember the giant Neighbor from Pre-Alpha? He’s a boss in the game. In order to defeat him, the player must use all of the abilities and skills he learned from the main house. This revolves heavily around platforming around this surreal environment. We will be looking closely at how players do this.
Players now spawn in their own house. Good opportunity to hoard some items. You will notice the Neighbor’s house got a couple of facelifts.
Intro to Beta 3 has been streamlined. RIP haunted door. It didn’t make much sense to have a "here’s how you throw a box through an open door" part in there, and the sequence of hiding in the drawer and getting caught created a negative association for new players. The game tells you to hide, and then the neighbor catches you. That sequence is completely gone.
Game Description: Mr. Shifty follows a teleportation-fueled heist to break into the world’s most secure facility. Shift through walls, through bullets, cover huge distances and be everywhere at once. One shot kills. Survive on skills. Use distraction, trickery, explore what’s possible when stealth and action become one! Toy with enemies, laugh as they use doors to enter rooms Underestimate enemies, and cry as they use group tactics to outsmart Shifty.

Exciting news! We’ve officially launched Community Inc on Steam. The Community Management Sim is set in a fantasy world filled with wondrous creatures to forge alliances with… or to go to war with. It’s up to you.

About Community Inc As a new Manager, build a happy community and trade with other races… for profit. Yes, that’s right, we need their happiness so we can power up our portals. The Lings, your workers, will obey you and help you with your village. But beware, they can cause a lot of problems too. If this is not enough, there are other creatures that will try to do the same, they can trade, fight or help you. Oh, don’t forget about the weather and some unexpected events.
Village Building Build your own village with many types of buildings, you need to decide what kind of objects, items or workbench you want inside. There are more than 150 items to craft. Every item and object has a reason. For example, craft a Wood Cabinet and put it inside the houses to increase your storage space. Roads can make them walk faster… and more.
Your workers The Lings works for you. You need to provide basic salary, food, clothes and a "healthy" environment. It’s up to you to decide how they work and where. Beware, they can start conflicts with each other and even set your village on fire. See them talking and eyes open for their status. Each one has unique traits and also attributes that you can control.
Discover Sandbox maps with random generated nature based on your initial profile. Custom maps that you can build yourself. Talk, trade or fight with other races. Collect treasures and sell it or use it on your community. Random events that can turn your whole village into a nightmare from day to night. See how weather impacts your food and workers.
And More! Rain and snow will change not only the visuals, but how you will handle your village. Craft better clothes or they can get sick. Craft better weapons and armors to face evil creatures or random thieves. Accept contracts and make enough Surplus (our currency) to make your community bigger. And, if everything goes wrong (or bad for you), you can just sell the village!
Two years ago we released Divide By Sheep, a dark humor mobile game created by Bread Team — a duo of game developers that lived on the Ukrainian/Russian border near Donetsk, on opposite sides of the border. The game did very well on mobile, and currently holds a 95% positive rating on Steam. I loved working with the team, and we immediately started a Game #2. That game is now Phantom Trigger, and it’s coming out next week. To say that the development of the game was difficult is an understatement. Aside from a much bigger scope than the first game, war broke out in the region. Victor, the game’s programmer, moved his family to East Ukraine mid-development. While Denis, the artist, moved to Saint Petersburg. I’ve been working with them and supporting through the whole process, acting as a producer.
